Starting weight = 214 lbs. (August 10)
Ending weight = 216.2 lbs. (August 24)
I was at the lake for 10 days. Usually I gain weight at the lake, even when following my low-carb, high-fat diet. I don’t know why that is. True to form, I gained 2.2 pounds since my last weigh-in on August 10.
Aside from the Lake Factor, I think it’s just that I have a serious carb intolerance. I need to get my daily total carbs under 50 grams a day in order to lose weight.
It could also be that my body has adjusted to an LCHF regime.
In that regard, a reader recently suggested that I try regular intermittent fasting. The idea of an intermittent fast is to throw your body a change-up. Anita has been following a similar “carb-cycling” approach for a few weeks, with weight-loss success.
I’m going to try a 16/8 fast tomorrow (Thursday, August 27) and again on Saturday (August 29). A 16/8 fast is one in which the individual skips breakfast, going 16 hours between the evening meal and the first meal of the next day.
Hi Jim,
My husband and I started following a low carb diet about 6 weeks ago, after reading the Eades “6-Week Cure for the Middle Aged Middle”. We’ve each lost about 10 pounds so far, and I do see this as a lifestyle change. I just discovered your blog and I think you’re doing a great job!
One question – what are you using to track your diet? Do you have an app or a website that you recommend?
Leslie — I use an older program called FitDay. I bought the PC version four years ago, and have it installed on my laptop. There may be better options, but I’m used to FitDay and have customized it a lot. The FitDay website (fitday.com) allows you to create a free account using the online version. I’ve found I need to use a recording / reporting app of some kind.
